Marine scientist T M Balakrishnan Nair gets Swadeshi Science Award

Marine scientist T M Balakrishnan Nair was presented with the Swadeshi Science Award constituted by the Kerala chapter of the Vijnana Bharati.

The Award citation mentioned Nair’s contributions and research in developing marine warnings, ocean observation systems and promoting the blue economy.

Kerala Governor Rajendra Viswanath Arlakkar presented the award during the 32nd Swadeshi Science Congress hosted at the Central University of Kerala, Kasaragod, on Wednesday.

Nair is currently serving as the director of the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad.

Nair’s team has made contributions in designing and developing an ocean observation network, building ocean forecast systems that provide early warning and advisory services on a daily operational mode to India and other Indian Ocean Rim (IOR) countries. He pioneered in developing and operationalising ocean data and information products and services for blue-economy stakeholders, such as maritime boards, coastal tourism and fishing industries.
