NEW DELHI, NOV 15: State Bank of India SBI would favourably consider power ministry8217;s proposal to allocate funds for the sector from the proceeds of Resurgent India Bonds RIB and other sources, SBI chairman M S Verma has said.
quot;RIB funds is not the only source to look upon. SBI could provide funds for core and infrastructure projects through other sources as well, quot; Verma said.
SBI would also make best efforts to accommodate the power ministry8217;s suggestion, he said responding to Power Minister Rangarajan Kumaramangalam8217;s plea for allocating funds from the 4.2 billion dollars collected through RIB to augment India8217;s forex reserves after the Pokharan tests. SBI had already given Rs 100 crore to Power Finance Corporation from RIB proceeds whereas PFC had asked for Rs 1000 crore.
quot; Not all money collected through RIB is with SBI and about Rs 6000 crore is lying with banks who were partners in RIB bond drive. A part of it has been parked abroad, quot; he said.
Asked whether SBI would effect any changes on itsinterest rate structure in the immediate future, he said, quot; This is not an opportune time to change the interest rate structure as signs of recovery were evident.quot; The banking system had enough liquidity to cater to increased fund requirement, he added.
