Saina, Guru make quarters

RMV Gurusaidutt made quick amends to his attacking game as the sixth-seeded Indian was stretched 19-21, 21-19, 21-12 by Malaysian Kam Chung Kuan before reaching the quarter-finals of the World Juniors Badminton here on Thursday. He faces a testing last-eight clash against second-seed Sung Min Park of Korea.

The physically stronger Malaysian took the lead, going a game and 17-13 up in the second, but called upon to employ the steadiest of his defences, Gurusaidutt came back by winning six points in a row and levelling the scores. He then rode the momentum to win the decider.

Women8217;s top seed Saina Nehwal was untroubled in her pursuit of a quarter-final spot, downing Shin Huan Hung of Chinese Taipei 21-13, 21-11.

India8217;s dreams in doubles crumbled, as all the pairs were evicted in quick succession. The biggest upset in the tournament was when women8217;s second-seed Xuerui Li of China went down to Sayaka Sato of Japan.
