
CHANDIGARH, Oct 5: The city police booked late this evening, Pawan Sachdeva, Managing Director of MS Shoes, New Delhi, along with two other directors of the company for allegedly cheating a Chandigarh-based businessman of Rs 51 lakh and forging documents.
According to police sources, registration of the case was ordered by a local court. The complainant, Ashok Goel, Managing Director of Modella Knitwear Limited, told Newsline: 8220;We had supplied sweaters worth Rs 1.53 crore for export to Russia to the company more than three years ago. We were given a cheque for Rs 51 lakh in October 1995, which later bounced.8221;
Sachdeva, a resident of Punjabi Bagh in New Delhi, had shot into prominence a few years ago, with prices of the company8217;s shares sky-rocketing. This was followed by the company allegedly defaulting on certain payments and the Securities and Exchange Board of India SEBI initiating an enquiry into the matter. Sachdeva was arrested in 1996 after hot pursuit by law enforcing agencies and is currently facing trial, sources add.
Police sources said that Goel filed a case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act in the court in April 1996. In Decemeber 1996, Sachdeva allegedly produced a receipt in the name of Modella Knitwear Limited, police said. Later, Sachdeva also produced three bills from Modella, it was added.
8220;We challenged the receipt and the bills in the court because they were forged. Following which we approached the police on May 28 this year for registration of a criminal case. The court ordered last month that a case be registered,8221; Goel alleged.
The police have registered a case of cheating, forgery and possessing forged documents against Pawan Sachdeva and his wife Sadna Sachdeva and mother Krishna Sachdeva 8212; both directors of the company 8212; under Sections 420, 467 and 471 of the IPC.
