Ruckus on the anthem

.

The PIL filed by a scientist, Sanjeev Bhatnagar, to replace 8216;Sind8217; with 8216;Kashmir8217; in the National Anthem, has been rejected by the apex court. If Sind is crossed out of the National Anthem on the plea that it is not a part of India now, the same logic should apply to East Bengal, now Bangladesh. What about Pakistan Occupied Kashmir? In any case, how come it hasn8217;t bothered anyone in Pakistan that Sind 8212; a part of Pakistan 8212; figures in India8217;s National Anthem? Rabindranath Tagore wrote the National Anthem before the dismemberment of India. Let it now remain in its original form and not get dismembered to reflect later-day realities.

National guarantee

8226; Apropos of the report, 8216;Invest in us or miss the bus: PM to London8217; IE, Sept 22, it betrays a very weak understanding of international commerce. Will any Indian business house invest in loss making projects in China? Please understand that, at the end of the day, it is the country not the prime minister even a a prime minister who is a reputed economist that builds the necessary confidence to ensure such investments.

Let Kashmir be

8226; The report of the commission probing the events leading up to the 9/11 terrorist attack on the US, squarely indicts Pakistan as a terrorist state. US Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage, found Pakistan-sponsored terrorism still active in Kashmir. While the US was searching for Osama bin Laden, he was under treatment in a military hospital in Peshawar. US officials who wanted tough action against Pakistan, including declaring it as a sponsor of terrorism, were overruled by the State Department. Against this background how dare Pakistan keep harping on Kashmir?

Maha crime

8226; The Express is now publishing the biodata of candidates for the Maharashtra elections. It indicates the very scary situation ahead of us. The credentials of some of the candidates show that we are very far from creating a truly democratic country. When criminals are on the way to participating in law-giving bodies, one must ask what type of laws are going to help the security of the public. We already have a criminalised police, government and municipal officers. What more is to come?

Poor selection

8226; The article, 8216;Wanted: A helping hand for Pathan8217; IE, Sept 22 is a well thought out article. However, the tragedy lies in the selection of players by selectors. They don8217;t do it on merit. There are some fast bowlers whose recent performances have been remarkable but they are nowhere.

8226; All is hell in Gudiya8217;s life now IE, Sept 22. She is being to forced to submit to community pressure and news channels are doing the worst thing possible by asking clerics for their opinion. What double standards! On the one hand, we talk of importance of emotions, liberty, equality and, on the other, we watch silently as a pregnant woman is being mentally tortured by a soldier who takes pride in doing so. And where are the human rights activists? They are nowhere to be seen.
