See Mercedes-Benz with new eyes
Take a fresh look at the Mercedes, in the shape of the new E-class Saloon which stands out through clarity of design. The car which was launched in February this year has already found 75 buyers in the region, including five, six from the city.
The unmistakable front, with twin elliptical headlights, is a real eye-catcher. However, there is much more to discover beneath the skin in terms of the standard equipment. It has electric windows with one-touch controls, the latest Mercedes-Benz Drive authorisation system, plus temperature controlled glass all round, an outside temperature gauge and a ventilation system with a dust filter.
To ensure that the delightful design goes hand in hand with superb driving qualities, it has the Acceleration Skid Control (ASR) which guarantees better traction and when moving off and ensures dynamic stability particularly on slippery surfaces. And Brake Assist (BAS) which shortens stopping distances decisively in an emergency. There is a choice of three different models viz; E-200 and E-230 petrol versions and the E-250 diesel version. The two standard colours, firn white and solid black or the optional metallic colours, smoke silver, ruby red or green black.
According to Birinder Singh Bala, Chairman and managing Director, Taipan Traders Limited, cars priced between Rs 23-27 lakhs has 70-80 per cent buyers in the corporate sector and only few well placed professionals. It is so far the most expensive car available in the Indian market. The car is mainly selling on the strength of its look and the standard of safety it offers.
Tell me more
The city got to know all about its past, present and future last week. In case you are wondering what this is about – this is the Esoteric Weekend organised by Kalachakra, attended by our elite. The Weekend ran from July 31 to August 2. Brinder Aulakh Anand, a tarot consultant and a senior lecturer at the Regional Institute of English and Ajay Arora, the Capital book store owner were the one’s who made this weekend possible. Great thought was given to every detail. Even the day and the time had special significance.
The main idea was not to know how much of wealth we will accumulate or when we’ll have a son? But as Brinder in her introductory speech clearly stated, “It is to know about our inner selves with the help of seven sciences: Dream analysis, western astrology, tarot, face reading, numerology, lal kitab and dowsing. Each of these interesting sciences were conducted by those who were well versed with their respective fields. And for all those curious minds who were there just to see how true their predictions are, were told you are not here to test their ability, all these are sciences.
All very interesting, but you paid a price for everything you got read. For as they say, if you receive something you must pay for it too. Lest you have to be born again to re-pay your this life’s debt (if you believe in re-birth). The price for all these was Rs 250 for 15 minutes; Rs 500 for half-an-hour and Rs 750 for 45 minutes.
It was difficult for most to chose what they wanted read. Many opted for dream analysis by Madhu Tandon from New Delhi who has written Faith & Fire based on her seven years in the Himalayas under the guidance of her guru Aropa. Even western astrology was popular by husband Rajeev Tandon.
I wouldn’t know how much of soul searching everyone did as most were there to know what would happen in their future. The practitioners, were good counsellors who quenched their desire telling them about their past and what was likely to take place in their lives. All in all a well attended weekend for who wouldn’t want to know about themselves or what the future holds.
