GANDHINAGAR, AUG 3: The Rashtriya Janata Party RJP has urged Governor Anshuman Singh to direct the Keshubhai Patel Government to institute a judicial inquiry into the recent series of mob attacks by VHP-Bajrang Dal workers on Christians and Muslims in different parts of Gujarat.

The RJP has also requested the Governor to ensure that the recent government resolution GR reversing the previous Shankarsinh Vaghela regimes decision to convert the Gujarat Minorities Board GMB into an autonomous corporation be withdrawn at the earliest.

A five-member delegation led by former Minister of State for Home Vipul Chaudhary met the Governor on Saturday evening and handed over a memorandum to him, listing a series of violent attacks on Christians and Muslims and charging the present BJP government with acirc;euro;tilde;protecting and shielding the VHP-Bajrang Dal activists involved in the incidents. Other members of the delegation were Gujarat Waqf Board chairman Mohammadali Qadri, Shehnaz Babi, Father Francis Parmar of StXaviers College and Ahmedbhai.

The delegation impressed upon Singh as to how the Sangh Parivar workers had let loose a reign of terror among minorities and how the government was acirc;euro;tilde;acirc;euro;tilde;conniving at terror tactics being resorted to by hooligans who have virtually taken the law into their hands.

After the Raj Bhavan visit, Vipul Chaudhary told reporters that the Governor had assured the delegation that he would ask the government to ensure the safety of minorities in the State. acirc;euro;tilde;acirc;euro;tilde;I will not remain a mute spectator. I have already warned the government against the recurring mob attacks on Muslims and Christians, the Governor informed the delegation.
