Australian captain Ricky Ponting being fined 25 per cent of his match fee for showing dissent on Monday is snowballing into a controversy. Indian Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has backed Ponting and ICC8217;s general manager Dave Richardson has even endorsed captains8217; right to challenge umpires8217; decisions

8216;Why didn8217;t umpires act?8217;

What happened on the first day at Chittagong was just one of those things. In a competitive situation, we will always get the odd incident. Bangladesh was well within its rights to write about it to the match referee. I was surprised it didn8217;t come from the umpires. It8217;s interesting

8216;Another form of appealing8217;

You don8217;t have to be a brain surgeon to work out that if we use it, it has to be along the lines of American football, where the players and the coach get to challenge a decision using replays. I would argue that it8217;s just another form of appealing.
