Cattle fair
Sundernagar: A three-day state-level cattle fair, will be held here, from February 25 to 28. The fair is being organised by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir would participate in the fair.

Mishap
Sundernagar: Two scooterists were injured, one of them seriously, in a road mishap near Dhanotu bridge, last night. One of them, who is reportedly in critical condition has been referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. The police have registered a case.

Demanded
Sundernagar: The president of Sundernagar Municipal Council, Dr S.P.G. Kesri has urged Forest Minister Roop Singh Thakur to recommend early release of funds for various developmental activities to be initiated by the council. The Minister had come to participate in the stone laying ceremony of the council complex on Sunday. Kesri also sought immediate filling up of vacant posts in the council.

Identified
Nahan: The person who died in bus mishap on Saturday has been identified as Babu Ram, a resident of Balmiki Basati, Nahan. The bus was on its way to Poanta from Shimla. The administration has given Rs 25,000 to the next of kin of the deceased.

Workshop
Nahan: As many as 150 women from all the development blocks and education centres participated in a joint workshop held by the District Primary Education Project DPEP and National Alliance for Women NAWO here today. In the workshop, the women were educated on importance of good health and the need of right decisions in bringing up a female child. The main speakers include K.R. Bharti, ADM, Sirmaur, R.K. Duggal, project officer DDEP, Mohindra Bhangalia, coordinator NAWO, Mohindra Bhangalia, Dr Manmeet Kaur and Indira Chauhan. Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kaushal stressed on the need of active participation of women in development of a honest society.

Meet
Una: The sixth HP Veteran Athletics meet was organised at the Indira Ground here yesterday by the District Una Veteran Athletic Association. According to S.K. Pathania, general secretary of the Association, Himotkarsh general secretary Shamsher Singh Rana declared the meet open. Padamshree Charanjit Singh, captain of the national hockey team which won the gold medal in Tokyo olympics, was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony. Sixteen veteran sports persons, who had participated in the national or Asian meets were honoured on the occasion. A total of 60 veterans participated in the meet.

Protest
Bathinda: About 500 CPI activists who, on the call of the party8217;s central executive committee, today presented themselves for courting arrest, had to return disappointed as the authorities declined to arrest them. Jagjit Singh Joga, district secretary of the CPI, claimed even after they took the procession right to the verandas of the DC8217;s office, they were not arrested. Assistant Commissioner P.S. Kandhola said the administration was not interested in arresting the CPI activists, who were protesting against the alleged anti-farmer and anti-dalit policies of the government.

Celebrated
Amritsar: The 88th anniversary of the Corps of Signals was celebrated by the Panther Signallers here today. The festivities included quot;pagal gymkhana,quot; an entertainment programme and Barakhana. A large number of ex-servicemen were present on the occasion. A spokesman of the corps said the Corps of Signals had always been in the forefront in assimilating new technologies and had made pioneering efforts in fielding state of the art communication network for the army.
