PATNA, OCT 6: A red alert has been sounded and a massive crackdown was underway in naxalite-infested south and central Bihar following the gunning down of Lohardaga Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Singh on Wednesday and a landmine blast in Giridih district on Thursday injuring six policemen, according to official sources.
State Home Commisioner U N Panjiyar said today district administrations of south and central Bihar had been put on maximum alert following the two incidents within a span of two days.
Panjiyar said a massive combing operation had been launched to nab the ultras who were annihilating their rivals with impunity in rural Bihar.
While the Lohardaga SP fell to MCC extremist bullets, six police personnel including a sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector were wounded in a landmine blast triggered by the outfit at Aura in Girdih district of south Bihar yesterday.
Besides the CRPF, Bihar Military Police (BMP) and district police, additional forces were being deployed in the extremist-hit police stations to deal with the challenge thrown by the ultras, the Home Commissioner said.
