Apart from shooting for his tele-serial Satyajiter Gappo, based on his father Satyajit Ray‘s short stories, Sandip Ray is engaged in another monumental task these days. To put the entire work of his father on CD. And this includes not only the great filmmaker’s short stories, novels, science fiction, letters and essays but also film scripts which won him national and international accolades.
"It’s a Herculean task involving a lot of time, money and energy but I am getting support from different people and organisations,” says Ray junior. He was particularly helped in this regard by the Ray Society, formed to preserve the maestro’s extensive work. The society, he says, has among other things undertaken the task of restoring a few films whose prints got damaged. That indeed is good news for all connoisseurs of Ray films. May their tribe increase.
