MUMBAI, FEB 10: Shardashram English High School tightened their grip on the ongoing Harris Shield final against Balmohan Vidyamandir at Wankhede Stadium today. The second day8217;s play, however, had its share of exciting moments particularly when Ameya Desai and Harshad Rawale were at the crease.

The Balmohan sixth-wicket pair almost enacted a coup with a 134-run association. But once Rawale departed trying an overambitious shot, the innings fell apart. Off-spinner Sameer Shaikh conducted the mopping up operations to a nicety to end up with a six-wicket haul 6-59.

Armed with a 82-run lead, openers Shirish Mandrekar 57: 84b, 88m, 9215;4 and Soham Dalvi 43: 72b, 88m, 6215;4 then underlined Shardashram8217;s authority raising 108 runs without getting separated when stumps were drawn for the day.

Earlier, resuming at the overnight score of 18-2, Balmohan appeared hurtling towards a meagre total having lost five wickets for just 62 runs on the board. In walked the promising Rawle and along with Desai altered thescript with a defiant display. While Rawle went for the runs, Desai was content in dropping anchor. And just when it seemed that they had put Balmohan back on the rails, Rawle fell and with him went the team8217;s hopes.

The 15-year-old Rawale made 85 88b, 95m, 12215;4. Desai too did not last long falling short of the crease after a bad mix-up while stealing a run. Desai8217;s patient knock was worth 76 runs 130b, 152m, 14215;4. Shaikh then took charge claiming the tail in his sixth spell of the day with read an impressive 5-2-13-4.

With the Shardashram openers putting a better performance in their second essay, all escape routes are fast diminishing for Balmohan.
