
NEW DELHI, September 6: Ravinder Singh, the experienced stopper-back of Shastri Football Club, has been unanimously chosen for the LML-Hindustan Award for the best player in the DSA senior division league. Ravinder Singh will be presented with a LML scooter in a glittering function, the date of which will be announced later.
A four-member selection committee, comprising former international footballers, national referees and representatives of the Hindustan Club, has chosen Ravinder Singh after carefully evaluating the performances of several players during the course of the DSA league. The committee considered consistency, technical expertise and fair play while selection Ravinder for the prestigious award.
Ravinder, whose rock-like performance played a major role in Shastri reaching the final of the DSA championship, has been chosen the best player for his sound tackling, excellent interceptions, domination in the air, good positional sense and distribution of the ball. Also his conduct on the field has been sportsmanlike. Above all, he has played consistently well in all of Shastri’s matches and marshaled their defense skillfully. Shastri have not conceded any goal since the super league.
Ravinder Singh originally hails from Karnal (Haryana) and this is his first season in Delhi football. An employee of the Haryana State Electricity Board, Ravinder has captained Haryana twice in Santosh Trophy and once in the National Games. He started playing football while studying in Central School (Ambala) and played for Ambala’s famous club, Aryans.
Ravinder, who feels his first coach Sumesh Bagga played a big role in shaping his career, wants to play for a National League Club in the near future. “I had an offer from a big Goa Club a couple of years ago, but I declined. If any such offer come again, I will take it now,” he said.
