Telephone numbers changed
Telephone numbers at Rajkot Collectorate have been changed. The new number for the Collector ate his office is 73980, and at his residence is 72900. The Resident Deputy Collector’s telephone numbers are 477819, 591107, while the district civil supply officer’s office number is 477891, and the number at his residence is 477813. Similarly, the city mamlatdar’s office number is 442999, and 581343 is the number at his residence.
Power thefts
GEB officials of Bedipara sub-division in Rajkot detected power thefts at Junction Plot, Gayakwadi Plot and Soni Bazar. Some 40 officials raided several shops and establishments and sealed 20 meters which had been tampered with. Goldsmiths in Soni Bazar, the chamber of commerce as well as the Dealers Association objected to the raids which began early today and continued till late afternoon.
Ban opposed
Rajkot police commissioner has banned heavy vehicles within the city limits during day time. However, transporters and transport associations have opposed the ban which took effect on April 9. Rajkot Engineering Association and others appealed to the commissioner to revoke the order. A meeting is being arranged, police sources said.
Gujarat Day
Rajkot Municipal Corporation plans cultural programmes to mark the Gujarat Foundation Day on May 1. The progrrames include lok dayro and bhajans. A civic team, compromising cultural committee chairman Sidhdharth Parmar, recently met Local Administration Minister Mahendra Trivedi in Gandhinagar in this connection. RMC plans to spend about Rs 1 lakh.
Book released
Gujarati novelist Jaswant Mehta released a book entitled, Viral Satya, written by Nalin Vyas here at a function organised by Shabdarang and Ghazal Parishad. Speaking on the occasion, he said creativity was a mischievous process of art. Former MLA Shanta Chavda, Sindhi literatteur Jayant Ralwani and Janardhan Pandya were the chief guests.
