Local residents and farmer groups today held a strong protest against the proposed biogas plant in the fodder market of Jamsher Dairy Complex. Jalandhar Cantt constituency MLA Pargat Singh joined the demonstration. He opposed the plant’s construction inside the fodder market, stating it must not be allowed there. Considering public health and pollution concerns, the plant should be relocated outside the village. The protesting farmers under Doaba Kisan Union gave an ultimate to the government to stop this project by January 23, or they will demolish it themselves.

“The municipal corporation and government must reconsider this. If the government does not reverse its decision, a path of struggle will be adopted,” said Pragat Singh adding that the Jamsher Dairy Complex is in a dire state as the municipal corporation has yet to fully develop the complex, causing significant inconvenience to nearby residents.

“Earlier, public support stopped a solid waste management plant there. Now, the government is once again preparing to compromise on people’s health. If the biogas plant is built in the fodder market, it will render the space unusable, leaving farmers without storage for fodder. The corporation and government should conduct a study before establishing the plant,” said Pargat. He that it should only be installed in the dairy complex after complying with all regulations.

He warned that he stands with Jamsher’s people. The plant will not be allowed inside the fodder market. He will not back down, even if it requires fighting every possible battle. During the protest, Adampur MLA Sukhwindar Singh Kotli also cautioned that he has opposed the CNG plant construction in Bhogpur for two years. He has not allowed even a single brick to be laid there, as it poses a deadly hazard and major health risks.
