A day after an attempted cable theft resulted in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Airport Line services getting disrupted, the Delhi Police lodged an FIR into the matter on Monday, officers said. This follows the DMRC filing a complaint on Sunday.
According to police, around 800 meters of signaling cables between the Dhaula Kuan and Shivaji Stadium stations were damaged by miscreants after they attempted to steal them. “Although the cables were cut during the attempted theft, the thieves could not take away the cut pieces of cables, which have been found near metro pillar number 9 during inspection,” a DMRC spokesperson said on Sunday.
An FIR has been lodged against unknown persons under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section related to theft and various sections under the Delhi Metro Railway Act, police said.
“The cable theft has disrupted the signaling system, and trains are running at a restricted speed of 25 kmph in the affected section, while normal train services are available on the rest of the Airport Express Line,” the DMRC spokesperson said.
As metros on the Airport Line run every 10 minutes, the repair work could not be undertaken without adversely affecting services, a DMRC official said.
“To minimise passenger inconvenience, restoration work will be taken up at night after the end of revenue service. The necessary planning and preparatory works are already being undertaken during daytime for the activities to be done at night,” the official added.
