NEW DELHI, March 11: Test off-spinner Rajesh Chauhan continues to be under the scrutiny of the camera.
Though Chauhan has been cleared by the International Cricket Council (ICC), his action is being video-taped during the current series against Australia to further satisfy the game’s governing body and remove any lurking suspicion.
After the three Test series is over, the video tape of Chauhan’s action in the Test matches will be sent to ICC’s bowling action committee which will have a close look into the matter.
The ICC committee comprises former Test players, including Kapil Dev and Pakistan’s Majid Khan.
ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya said here today that though he has no doubt about Chauhan’s action, it was felt that “bowling at the nets and bowling in Test match is totally different.”
“A bowler some time bowls differently at the nets especially when he is under scrutiny.”
Dalmiya said the ICC match referee for the Test series Van Der Merwe of South Africa will also give his report onChauhan’s action.
Dalmiya, however, made it clear that ICC has not given any instruction to umpires to specifically monitor Chauhan’s bowling action. But they have a right to call him if they feel or think so about his action.
He also said it is only the bowling action committee which is empowered to take any action in such type of situation against a player.
Meanwhile President of the BCCI, Raj Singh Dungarpur said here today that there was no proposal to send off-spinner Rajesh Chauhan to Hong Kong for treatment of his bowling arm by a specialist there.
“The ICC has already cleared him after he went through the tests watched keenly by former England off spinner Fred Titmus,” shot back Dungarpur. “As far as we (board) are concerned, Chauhan has been cleared by ICC and that is it”, he added.
When asked about the board’s decision to replace selection committee chairman Ramakant Desai, the BCCI chief said, “We have not decided about it as yet.”
Meanwhile, former India captain and manager AjitWadekar, tipped as the successor to Desai, told PTI if the board offers him chairman’s post he would definitely take it up.
