
Bangalore, Feb 15: Railways put their hearts into the battle to hold off former champions Karnataka on the second day in the Super League of the Ranji Trophy cricket tournament at the KSCA Stadium on Sunday.
The top three Railways batsmen batted with exemplary discipline to weather the Karnataka attack for nearly 150 minutes to take the side to a healthy close of play score of 82 for one today.
Karnataka, riding on Vijay Bharadwaj8217;s superb innings of 164, had declared their first innings closed at 462 for eight, an hour after lunch today.
Undaunted by the imposing Karnataka total, Railways8217; openers Sanjay Bangar and Satyendar Yadav batted sensibly and blunted the home team8217;s three-pronged medium pace attack.
The openers were not seperated at tea and had added 54 runs before Sunil Joshi dismissed Yadav with his very first delivery.
The overnight batsmen, Vijay Bharadwaj and Anil Kumble set off on a rollicking sixth wicket stand of 159 invaluable runs. Bharadwaj, who notched up his highest score infirst class cricket, was finally caught on the cover fence off medium pacer Javed Zaman for 164 376 m, 267 b, 24215;4.
