
Karunakaran injured in accident
KOCHI: Senior Congress leader K Karunakaran survived a collision involving his car and a stationary lorry at Perinjanam in Thrissur district on Sunday with minor injuries on his forehead and a slight crack in his wrist. The former Kerala Chief Minister was immediately rushed to a private hospital at nearby Chalakkudy where his head wound was stitched and the wrist plastered. He was discharged in the afternoon.
Haryana expulsion
CHANDIGARH: Congress on Sunday expelled for six years nine members of the state Pradesh Congress Committee, including a party rebel Avtar Singh Bhadana, who unsuccessfully contested the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections from Faridabad as an Independent.
RS nominations
NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to nominate M Venkaiah Naidu as candidate for the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka and Loaja Pati Rai of Ludhiana from Punjab in the biennial elections to Rajya Sabha. The elections will be held on March 27. Thelast date of nominations is March 17.
Social worker dead
ANGUL ORISSA: Veteran freedom fighter and social worker Malati Choudhury passed away at her ashram here on Sunday. Choudhury, 94, was the wife of the late Chief Minister of Orissa Nabakrushna Choudhury.
