
Elton John gets Grammy
NEW YORK: Elton John8217;s tribute to the late Princess Diana, Candle in the Wind, 1997, won a Grammy award as the music industry handed out its highest honours in a pre-televised ceremony. The song, a rewrite of John8217;s and collaborator Bernie Taupin8217;s Candle in the Wind, a tribute to Marilyn Monroe which became the best-selling single of all time, won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance on Wednesday.
Sugar released
NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday released 7.25 lakh tonnes of sugar for indigenous free sale for April and 7.75 lakh tonnes each for May and June. With 3.69 lakh tonnes of sugar quota released for each of these months, the total sugar available for consumption will be 10.94 lakh tonnes for April and 11.44 lakh tonnes each for May and June.

HYDERABAD: The killing of a ruling Telugu Desam Party functionary by suspected ultras of the outlawed People8217;s War Group Naxals near Kandukur town in Ongoledistrict on Wednesday night sparked off violence and arson, forcing police to open fire in the air to disperse the mob. An extremist group hurled a bomb at Lakshmaiah Naidu. When it did not explode, they opened fire killing him on the spot.
Pandits8217; plea
NEW DELHI: Kashmiri Pandit migrants said the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir into a centrally administered union territory was a pre-requisite for them to return to the Kashmir valley. Kashmiri Samiti president C L Gadoo said the migrants could not go back unless normalcy was restored and administrative and security measures were taken to root out terrorism in the state.
