Police firing in Mathura, 40 held

MATHURA: Police fired several rounds in the air to disperse a violent mob, which resented the raid on their houses following the alleged illegal slaughtering of an animal in Manoharpura here today.

Police said the violence erupted when a police party had gone to arrest some persons, who were allegedly slaughtering an animal. Seeing the police, the slaughterers fled. When police raided their houses to arrest them they were attacked with brickbats. Later police arrested 40 persons of a community.

Trishul testfired

KOCHI: Yet another test firing of Trishul, the country8217;s indigenously developed short-range quick reaction surface-to-air missile, was successfully carried out here today, according to Defence Research Development Organisation DRDO sources.

The test firing, the latest in the ongoing series of test flights of the Trishul8217;s naval version was carried out at 1800 hrs from a special launch pad at INS Dronacharya8217;, the Indian Navy8217;s off-shoreestablishment in the city.

Eve-teasing death

SALEM: Three teenaged boys have been arrested here in connection with the death of girl following alleged eve-teasing recently. Police Commissioner V Jagannathan told newspersons the 16-year-old girl, Sudha, who immolated herself recently, unable to bear constant harassment by the boys, succumbed to burn injuries yesterday.
