
Teachers resume work
College teachers resumed work on Monday following a circular by the Pune University Teachers8217; Association PUTA to all colleges that the strike has been withdrawn.
The indefinite strike began on August 11 and lasted 26 days. PUTA president Harish Desai said the strike was called off by teachers8217; associations affiliated to the All India Federation of University and Teachers. Desai said the demand for the revised pay-scales had been accepted and two increments had been approved for the select grade professors. However, the issue of promotions was yet to be cleared, he said.
Ganesh bonanza for PMT, autos
The Pune Municipal Transport PMT earned an additional Rs 50.84 lakh during the ten-day Ganesh festival which ended on Saturday, at least Rs 1.5 lakh more than last year8217;s.
The PMT, which earns Rs 21 lakh a day, netted a profit of Rs 5.5 lakh daily during the festival. Its highest collection 8212; Rs 30 lakh 8212; was on the day of Gauri immersion.
Krantiveek Six-seater Autorickshaw Sanghatana president Badshah Sayyed said six-seaters too did good business with nearly 500 plying throughout the night. There are 2,200 six-seaters in the city. Sayyed said they averaged an income of Rs 50 lakh.
