Parts of city suffer 8-hour power cut
A technical fault in 11 KV line of the Shastri Nagar power sub station of the Bund Garden division of MSEB caused yet another power cut for more than eight hours in the areas surrounding Nagar Road on Friday.

According to a press release issued by MSEB, the power supply at Viman Nagar, Nagar Road, Ramwadi, some parts of Wadgaonsheri and Aga Khan Palace was affected since 11 am on Friday.

Requesting the citizens to bear with the inconvenience, the press communique stated that the work of restoring the 11 KV line at Shastri Nagar power sub station was on in full swing.

Collector shifts Mobo8217;s offices
The offices of sub-divisional magistrate, the special executive magistrate and the two sub-registrars at Mobo8217;s Hotel, off Bund Garden Road, have finally been shifted.

District collector Vijaykumar Gautam on Friday issued an order saying that these offices would now work from new administrative building opposite Council Hall. These offices will be on the first floor of the A8217; wing of the building. The district collector took the decision to shift these offices in view of the dilapidated structure of the Mobo8217;s Hotel.

It may be recalled that The Indian Express had carried a report in September 1997 focusing the conditions under which about 150 government employees had to work. The untimely rains in November-December worsened the condition of the building as it widened the cracks in the front portion of the building and exposed the bricks.

The main staircase in the frontal portion of the building had also become dangerous forcing the employees to get it repaired in absence of any immediate measures taken by the collectorate. The hurriedly repaired staircase was also equally dangerous as the wood used for the work was not sturdy enough to withstand constant pressure of the employees and the visitors. The authorities had put up a barricade in frontal portion of the building so that there would be no casualty in case of sudden collapse of the wall.

Besides, 150-odd government employees, about 500 to 600 visitors used to come to this office on any working day.

Two run over
Two youths were killed on the spot when they were run over by a train at a railway crossing at Dapodi on Friday.

The deceased, Sanjay Dattatray Gabdulle 26 and Gabbar Noor Qureshi 19, were residents of Nehru Chowk in Dapodi. They were strolling near the railway track when a goods train ran over them, railway police said.

Earlier on Thursday night, Balbeer Seetaram Patil 30 of Yerwada was seriously injured when a train knocked him down at the same spot.
