Philately museum on cards
The Department of Posts has hit upon a novel method to kindle the interest of the youth in philately. A philatelic museum will be set up at the GPO by March 2000. The idea is to familiarise the younger generation with the country8217;s rich heritage through the medium of stamps. Freedom fighters, wild life, aviation, flora and fauna, space, discoveries, personalities and great moments and culture will all be covered through this effort. The local philately bureau will coordinate the entire effort and contact local schools to conduct workshops.

Neeta murder: Bhavbandhe in judicial custody
Satish Bhavbandhe, who is facing the charges of abducting and killing 16-year-old Neeta Hendre, was on Friday remanded to judicial custody till October 21.

A resident of Rakshalekha Housing Society, Satish was produced before judicial magistrate first class Paramjyot Singh Chahel by a Swargate police team led by sub-inspector M I Nadaf this afternoon. The magistrate remanded him to judicial custody.

Neeta, who resided at the same society, was studying in XI standard at the Garware College. She was allegedly kidnapped while returning home from the private coaching class where she took tuition on September 23.

Her father Shamrao had lodged a first information report FIR accusing Bhavbandhe of abducting her at Dattawadi police chowkey early on September 24. Neeta8217;s mutilated body was found lying at a deserted spot in Swargate police lines on the evening of September 24.

Bhavbandhe was arrested at Talegaon Dabhade on September 26. On the next day, he was produced before a judicial magistrate first class who remanded him to police custody till October 8.

Preliminary investigations have established that Neeta was strangled with her dupatta and a shoe lace before her neck and wrists were slashed with a knife. The police have already recovered Neeta8217;s stolen chain and ear ring from Bhavbandhe. Bhavbandhe8217;s blood-stained clothes and the blade used to attack Neeta have also been seized.
