
Spy case accused re-arrested
Police re-arrested Rajesh Yeshwant Kamble, one of the co-accused in the ISI-spy case on Tuesday afternoon. He was one of the three to be granted bail after the police had failed to file the chargesheet within the stipulated 90 days.
According to the police, Kamble was arrested under the National Security Act when his father came to the Yerawada Central Jail with the bail order after depositing the surety of Rs 25000. Assistant police inspector S R Kulkarni of the crime branch placed Kamble under arrest immediately after the bail order was given to the jail authorities.
Kamble had been accused of passing classified documents to Sayeed Ahmed Mohammed Desai, the suspected Pakistan Military Intelligence operative. According to the police, Kamble who worked at the Controller of Defence Accounts office had been found in posession of documents of a sensitive nature.
On Monday, another co-accused David Manuel, was arrested under the National Security Act immediately after his bail order was delivered.
Kothrud garbage depot shifting slows down
Taking note of the stiff resistance from local residents, the PMC standing committee on Tuesday postponed any decision on Municipal Commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad8217;s propsal asking permission for land acquisition at Undari Pisoli for garbage depot.
Standing committee chairman Arun Dhimdhime said the issue was postponed since several representations from Undari Pisoli had met him and conveyed their opposition to the garbage depot. He said he would ask party leaders to reach a consensus on the issue to avoid any confrontation. Dhimdhime said he expect final decision within a month.
Gaikwad has proposed to dump garbage from the entire city at an abandoned stone quarry at Undari Pisoli. He has sought permission of the standing committee for land acquisition for the purpose.
