History-sheeter on punching spree
A history-sheeter went beserk beating people at Pune Municipal Corporation’s staff quarters in Shastrinagar, Kothrud on Tuesday afternoon.Ravindra Balaram Mohite thrashed up two persons and attacked two uniformed constables trying to nab him in full public view. Constable Dilip Londhe from Kothrud police station suffered some injuries in the mele.

Londhe, who was bitten up by Mohite, was discharged after first aid at Sassoon Hospital. Mohite’s neighbour Abhimanyu Shedge claimed that the history-sheeter had attacked his father Vasant. Mohite attacked Vasant when he tried to intervene in his squabble with a labourer working at a construction site in the nearby area.

Over 250 residents watched dumbstruck as Mohite went about punching the labourer and Shedge for 15 minutes. Mohite charged at Shinde with a stick when the policeman asked him to surrender. Londhe caught Mohite and disarmed him. Mohite freed himself after biting Londhe and took to his heels. He was nabbed after a short chase.

Bus claims baby
Five-month-old Rishabh Shinde lost his life due to dangerous overtaking by a State Transport bus at Khadki on Mumbai-Pune road on Tuesday evening. His parents Rajendra (32) and Vaishali (28) were seriously injured in the mishap. Rishabh was their only child.

The Shindes’ from Masulkar Colony in Pimpri were returning home after meeting Rajendra’s ailing father who is undergoing treatment at the Command Hospital at Khadki when the mishap took place, the police said.The driver Arvind Bansi Bansode (36) was trying to overtake a company bus. He drove on the wrong side of the road and dashed the Shindes’ scooter, they added. The baby hit his head on the road.

Water closure
Normal water supply in Pimpri-Chinchwad township will be affected on Thursday because of less release of water from the Pawana dam, an official release said today. The irrigation department has decided to reduce the release of water from Wednesday 1 am onwards till 6 pm on Thursday, to facilitate urgent repair works to the Kolhapur type weir. Water supply will be reduced and will be at below normal pressure on Thursday.
