Tainted milk racket busted in Kothrud
The Kothrud police on Tuesday claimed that they have busted a racket involved in adulterating milk sold in polythene packs by the Chitale Dairy. Two milkmen have been arrested in this connection.

This is for the second time during this year that the police have taken action against those involved in adulterating milk in Kothrud. In February, the police had arrested a gang which indulged in adulterating milk.

Acting on complaint made by the officials of the Chitale Dairy, the Kothrud police raided a room in Karvenagar where milk was being adulterated and arrested Ravi Ramalu Bhandari (22) and Nagarjun Ramchandra Barnallu (19) around 6 am today.

Police said both Bhandari and Barnallu, who are residents of Gosavi Vasti area in Karvenagar, supply milk to residents in Kothrud on daily basis.

The duo used to purchase milk packs from the Chitale Dairy and remove 25 per cent of milk from each pack at their base in Karvenagar. They would seal the packs after mixing water in the milk remaining in it. The removed milk was also being adulterated, filled in used packs of same dairy and sold.

The dairy officials came to know about the racket while probing into the claims by the residents about the quality of milk they were getting. A dairy official, Dattatray D Kulkarni (40) of Gurujan Housing Society on Paud Road, has lodged a first information report (FIR) at the Kothrud police station.
