
PMC declares Sangam bridge safe
Development engineer roads P.T. Pawar categorically asserted on Wednesday that the old sangam bridge was absolutely safe for the vehicular traffic.
Pawar, accompanied by retired chief engineer of Western Railway Y G Patvardhan, examined the entire bridge in a boat for about two hours. Later, he told media persons that the bridge was safe even if it required some repairs. Pawar said the Pune Municipal Corporation would undertake plastering of the bridge after completion of sewerage line work. He said the corporation would take final decision on banning heavy vehicles on the bridge after consulting the traffic police.
Youth killed as bike skids
A 22-year-old youth, Nilesh Subhedar Koli, was killed when his motorcycle skidded near St. Patrick8217;s Town Road off the Pune-Solapur highway last night.
Koli, a resident of Sikandar Taksali of Mohol taluka in Solapur district, was heading towards Hadapsar. The motorcycle skidded when he suddenly applied brakes, the police said. Pillion-rider Prakash Dagadu Koli was injured in the mishap.
