PUNE, Oct 13: In an effort to prevent occurrence of further irregularities in the Examination Department, the University of Pune UoP has introduced major changes in the procedures of setting question papers and revaluation.

It is now compulsory for professors to set and submit the question paper at the University itself, as per the schedule which will be conveyed to the professors, confidentially, in advance, informed Officiating Controller of Examination V S Pole today.

The professors, who must register as paper setters at the UoP, will now be allowed to set question papers only for the subjects they teach, and will have to carry identity papers during the process of setting papers.

8220;Question papers this year will be set before the deadline and these progressive measures have been taken after discussions with professors, who have extended their co-operation to the University,8221; said Pole.

Beginning with the declaration of results of the revaluation of engineering examination this year, the results of revaluation of marks will no longer be posted to students, said Pole, adding that elimination of the middle-man in the revaluation procedure was necessary to curb malpractices like the recent incidents of bogus mark sheets. Students will henceforth have to submit the mark lists for revaluation to the concerned colleges, which will collectively send them to the Examination Department of the University, said Pole. 8220;With the new centralised revaluation process, results will be sent back to the respective colleges and not to the students.8221;

The University hopes to expand these progressive measures to all examinations, said Pole.

These changes in the Examination Department of the UoP come in the wake of recent irregularities in the chemical engineering examinations held this year, three incidents of submission of bogus mark sheets and the suspension of the Controller of Examinations.
