
MUMBAI, March 23: The Maharashtra government has ordered an inquiry against total 34 officials and one employee of the Thane Municipal Corporation TMC involved in the corruption charges of various purchases and illegal constructions, Minister of State for Home Prabhakar More today said in the Legislative Assembly.
More was replying during a discussion on the issue to a question raised by Nihal Ahmed Janata Dal on the status of enquiry against the TMC officials.
The minister said a retired administrative service officer B M Ambaikar has been appointed to conduct the enquiry. A show cause notice has been served to 14 officials and three others have been suspended so far, he said adding that the state government has issued orders to the TMC to implement the recommendations of the Nandlal committee which probed the corruption charges on various deals of the TMC.
Tenders with lower quotations were being submitted, wherever the work is found to be sub-standard the contractor concerned has also beenasked to rectify it, he said. The inspection is done by specially appointed inspectors and the contractors who refuse to correct the sub-standard work are being blacklisted while the amount is being adjusted from their bills, the minister informed.
