Unbeaten CSK aim for win ‘trick

Unbeaten so far,Chennai Super Kings will eye a hat-trick of victories to seal a semifinal spot when they square off against winless Brisbane Heat.

Unbeaten so far,table-toppers Chennai Super Kings will eye a hat-trick of victories to seal a semifinal spot when they square off against winless Brisbane Heat in their third Group B Champions League Twenty20 match on Saturday.

Chennai are among the favourites to lift the Champions League for a second time after clinching the trophy in 2010. They displayed the sheer depth in their line-up on Thursday when Suresh Raina smashed a quickfire half-century while skipper MS Dhoni produced a belligerent 19-ball 63,the fastest fifty in the history of the Champions League, for CSK to post 202 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Brisbane are all but eliminated from the competition. Handed defeats in the two matches they have played so far,Brisbane need to beat CSK to stay alive in the event. The depleted Australian outfit, who failed miserably with the bat in the games against Trinidad & Tobago and Titans, will expect their batsmen to show more responsibility.

Chasing a modest 123 against Titans,Brisbane were bundled out for 119 with opener Joe Burns being the only noteworthy contributor. After a 43-ball 45 against T&T,Burns made 37 against the Titans.

Brisbane will hope that captain James Hopes,all-rounder Dan Christian and Chris Lynn will also come to the party.

Crunch time for titans & sunrisers

With one win and a defeat, both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Titans will desperately look for a victory to stay in contention for a semifinal berth. The two teams are on four points each and defeat would mean that the losing side is virtually out of the reckoning.

After qualifying into the main draw,Sunrisers got off to a winning start against T&T before they were bulldozed by CSK. But the fact that Sunrisers could reach 190 for seven in reply to the Super Kings massive 202 speaks volumes about their batting. They will rely on their skipper Shikhar Dhawan and opener Parthiv Patel to provide them a solid platform.

Both Dhawan and Patel failed to convert good starts into big scores against CSK,and they will need to be careful while negotiating Titans’ formidable attack led by Morne Morkel and Roelof Van der Merwe.

Darren Sammy, who top-scored with a 25-ball 50 against CSK,is another key player. J P Duminy and Thisara Perera will also be expected to step it up.

Dale Steyn,Ishant Sharma and leg-spinner Amit Mishra form an incisive attack but they failed to fire in unison against CSK. They will be keen to make amends ahead of this important tie.
