Kidnapped British boy released

A five-year-old British boy of Pakistani origin,who was kidnapped at gunpoint while visiting his relatives in the country,has been released,the UK's High Commission said.

A five-year-old British boy of Pakistani origin,who was kidnapped at gunpoint while visiting his relatives in the country,has been released,the UK8217;s High Commission here said today.

Sahil Saeed was kidnapped from his grandmother8217;s house in Jhelum town of Punjab province,100 km from Islamabad,on March 4.

The kidnappers,who also stole jewellery and cash from the house,demanded a 120,000-dollar ransom for Sahil8217;s release.

8220;This is fantastic news. It brings to an end the traumatic ordeal faced by Sahil and his family,8221; British High Commissioner Adam Thomson said in a statement that was read out by a spokesman for the mission.

8220;I would like to praise the high level of cooperation between UK and Pakistani authorities and in particular I would like to thank the Jhelum police for their role in bringing about the safe return of Sahil,8221; he said.

The British High Commissioner did not give details of when,where or how Sahil was released. It also did not provide the boy8217;s current whereabouts.
