The Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI has issued a show-cause notice to left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh and has suspended him pending inquiry. Harmeet was approached by bookies through Rajasthan Royals teammate Ajit Chandila before the start of IPL-6 began. As was the case with Siddharth Trivedi,Harmeet didnt inform the board till the matter came to light after the Delhi Police arrested bookies Manan Bhatt and Jitender Jain a few days ago.
BCCIs anti-corruption and security unit ACSU chief Ravi Sawani will meet the 20-year-old Harmeet at the BCCI headquarters on Saturday afternoon. Harmeet will be questioned and asked to submit a written reply to the board.
We have issued a show-cause notice and asked Harmeet to depose in front of Sawani on Saturday. Like Trivedi,he too was approached by bookies but he didnt inform either the ACSU officer or the board about it, a top BCCI official told the Indian Express.
Article 2.4.2 of the BCCIs anti-corruption code mentions failing or refusing to disclose to the ACU of the BCCI without undue delay full details of any approaches or invitations received by the participant to engage in conduct that would amount to a breach of this anti-corruption code. Article 2.4.3 says that a breach would also include failing to report approaches or invitations that have been received by any other party to engage in conduct that would amount to a breach of this Anti-Corruption Code.
Even after the incident came to light and cricketers were booked by Delhi Police during the IPL season,Harmeet didnt inform the BCCI or its ACSU about his meeting with two bookies. On Friday,Harmeet recorded his statement before a magistrate at the Saket court in Delhi and the youngster,it is learned, will turn witness for the Delhi Police in the IPL-Spot fixing case.
Meanwhile, the Vidarbha Cricket Association recorded Harmeets statement about the incident and had asked him to come clean before becoming part of the associations Ranji Trophy team. Harmeet,it is learnt, had given a written statement to the VCA before flying to Delhi.
The BCCIs two-man commission of Justice T Jayaram Chouta and Justice R Balasubramanian, who are probing the IPL betting case of Chennai Super Kings team official Gurunath Meiyapan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra, will meet the Delhi Police special cell on Saturday in Bangalore.
The commission has invited the Delhi Police special cell asking them if they want to share any details about the IPL fixing scandal. They have agreed to send their officer, who will meet the commission in Bangalore, a BCCI source said.
