Punjab captain Harbhajan Singh will face off against his former skipper Sourav Ganguly, currently leading Bengal,in the semifinals on Saturday.
While the contest between the two will be an interesting footnote, the competition between the two sides at the Palam ground will be that of equals, with both losing players to national duty. Punjab have lost leg-spinner Rahul Sharma while Bengal will miss the services of Ashok Dinda and Manoj Tiwary.
Both teams have been struggling to score up the order and the middle order is expected to be their saviour. While Bengal had been banking on pacer Dinda,Punjab have been regularly playing four spinners on the sluggish Palam track. Despite the absence of Sharma, that policy will continue, with U-19 left arm spinner Vinay Choudhary expected to make his debut.
The wicket has played slow throughout and we dont see an extra pacer filling Rahul Sharmas spot. So we called in an extra spinner Vinay Choudhary who has performed outstandingly in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, said Punjab bowling coach Harvinder Singh.
He also said the toss will play a major part. If we win the toss,we are definitely going to bat. We are unfortunate to be losing the toss and hence chasing targets. But we are ready to bat first and will look to put a fighting total, he said.
