NEW DELHI, January 19: The postmortem report of Rajinder Jain, a witness in the Jain Commission of inquiry probing the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, has reportedly indicated that he was murdered.
Though the report was submitted to the police on Sunday, a case of murder had not been registered at the local police station till this evening. The body of Rajinder, a journalist and one time associate of Chandraswamy, was found charred at his Pitamapura residence on January 7.
Initially the police said that his death was only an accident since there was no sign of foul play. But the postmortem report ruled out the possibility of Rajinder8217;s death because of electrocution.
According to the report if this were true he could not have moved towards the bathroom where his body was found.
The report also stated that flames from an electric heater could not have burned the body to that extent. There were clear signs that he had been throttled before being set ablaze.

And there were traces of alcohol on his upper body which was severely burnt.Such burns, the report stated, were found only on aged victims who were suffering from cardiac problems or epilepsy. It was only after his wife and other relations identified his body that Rajinder8217;s connection with the Jain Commission was confirmed.
Rajinder8217;sbody was found in his bathroom after the police broke open the door 8212; both exits were locked from inside.
