MUMBAI, FEB 8: The points system formulated by the three-member technical committee of the tri-nation Asian Test Championship, set to commence at Calcutta on February 16, is under review and would be finalised tomorrow.

The technical committee, comprising Sunil Gavaskar (India), Majid Khan (Pakistan) and Asantha de Mel (Sri Lanka), had drafted the points system for the inaugural championship at Delhi on February 3 which is under review, according to Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) sources today.

As per the points system decided by the techincal committee, 12 points were to be awarded for a win and no points for a drawn encounter in the four-match series which culminates with the final at Dhaka from March 12-16 between the top two teams in the round-robin series featuring India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

In addition, batting and bowling points were to be awarded as follows: one point, two points and three points in batting for reaching 150, 225 and 300 runs or more respectively in 100 overs; one point, twopoints and three points in bowling for taking three, five and seven or more wickets in 100 overs.

The committee has decided not to award any points for the first innings lead.The umpires for the championships will be from different continent for the first Asian test championship to be played from February 16 starting in Calcutta.

Accordingly Steve Bucknor of West Indies and Rudi Koertzen of South Africa will officiate in the first of the Test championship to be played at Calcutta. West Indian Cammie Smith will continue to be the match referee.

The announcement of other umpires including one for the television replay plus the points system for the championship is expected to be made by ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya in Calcutta on Wednesday.The itinerary: Feb 16-20: India v Pakistan at Calcutta, Feb 24-28: India v Sri Lanka at Colombo; Mar 4-8: Pakistan v Lanka at Lahore; Mar 12-16: final at Dhaka.
