PUNE, Sept 11: The State Government has cleared in principle the scheme for Pimpri-Chinchwad to bring raw water through closed pipelines from the Pawana reservoir in Maval taluka to the filtration plant at Nigdi.
Chief Minister Manohar Joshi cleared the proposal at a meeting recently, Shiv Sena MLA Gajanan Babar told newspersons today.
The Rs 125 crore scheme will take three years for completion. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has already completed its feasibility survey.
A 37 km pipeline will bring raw water. The scheme will meet the water requirement of 320 million liters per day up to 2011. Currently, 114 MLD water is provided by the PCMC and an additional 120 MLD by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation.
