
Mohile Parikh Centre for the Visual Arts will be holding, from today, at the Godrej Dance Academy Auditorium of the NCPA, a three-day conference titled Frameworks for Art: Theory and Practice8217;. Conceived and designed by honourary deputy directors, Dr Prashant and Avani Parikh, co-advisors Noell Carrol, professor of philosophy of Art at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and Geeta Kapur, art critic, New Delhi, have also contributed in giving shape to this conference.
Their aim: to bring together three important strands of contemporary thought 8212; analytical, continental, and Indian philosophy. Dialogue and discussions will be encouraged during both regular question-answer sessions and the breaks. Norman Bryson, professor of Art History, from Harvard University, will speak on Continental Thought I, Noell Carroll on Analytical Thought II; Hal Foster on Continental Thought II psychoanalytical.
A galaxy of art historians from within India like Dr B N Goswami from Chandigarh, Dr Jyotindra Jain, director ofthe Museum of Handicrafts, from New Delhi, painters Vivan Sundaram from New Delhi, sculptor Latika Katt from Benaras, poet and painter Gulam Sheikh and Bhupen Kakkar from Baroda, Sharon Appa Rao of Sakshi Gallery, Chennai, scholar Mukund Lath from Jaipur and painters Akbar Padamsee, Atul Dodia, Lakshman Shreshtha and Nalini Malani from Mumbai will be in attendance.
