Sophia Loren is `most beautiful woman’: Survey
LONDON:
Forget super models. Sixty-five-year-old Sophia Loren is going down in history as the most beautiful woman in the world. The Italian actress beat rivals half her age in a poll of 3,000 Britons, released on Friday. Her snap will be placed in a millennium time capsule for future generations to marvel at. The “mature woman” was well-represented in the poll’s top 10. U.S. movie star Raquel Welch, 59, was seventh. Loren pipped Liz Hurley, 34, to the top spot with 33-year old model Cindy Crawford at third place. Julia Roberts, 32, came fourth.

Clinton tops `maths quiz’
WASHINGTON:
For George W. Bush, the subject was foreign affairs. For US President Bill Clinton, it was maths: how many pickle slices can you get out of 3.2 million cucumbers? The answer? 192 million, according to Clinton’s calculations on Friday night on a shard of notebook paper he received from a curious reporter, who alsoasked Clinton to name the leader of Chechnya, in the spirit of the pop quiz Bush received on Wednesday.

Answering the reporter’s maths question, Clinton wrote on the back of a note, “I checked the calculation with the Chechnyan leader Aslan Maskhadov and he agrees.” The maths challenge grew out of Clinton’s announcement that the supplier of the fast-food chain Burger King had committed to buy 200 acres’ worth of cucumbers from growers in the Mississippi delta. “I don’t know how many pickle slices that is, but it’s 3.2 million pounds of cucumbers,” Clinton said. “That’s a lot of pickles.” That prompted a reporter to scribble down a word problem and forward it to Clinton through an aide: “If there are three cucumbers in a pound, and Burger King buys 3.2 million pounds of pickles. And you can cut 20 slices of pi ckle from each cucumber, how many pickle slices will you get?” Clinton supplied the answer aboard Air Force One, enroute to Washington from Chicago. He told reporters he solved Knoller’sproblem in about 30 seconds. Without a calculator. “I don’t use a calculator,” Clinton said. “I’m technologically challenged.”

Geri, boyfriend speak to Media
LONDON:
Britain’s hottest showbiz couple — ex-Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and top disc jockey Chris Evans — came clean on Saturday giving separate interviews to “speak of their love” for each other.

Halliwell, 27, the former Ginger Spice, chose Britain’s biggest-selling daily, The Sun, to confirm something that had been the subject of intense media speculation for days: “she and Chris are lovers”. Evans, 33, confided in The Sun’s biggest rival, The Mirror, to declare what the paper called “my love for Geri”. Newspapers have been agog since it was disclosed earlier this week that Britain’s two most famous redheads were an item and might even get married.
