The Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA) has extended the time limit of the amnesty scheme for house owners to pay back their loans by one more month. Now, they can pay up by December 31.

The PCNTDA has, so far, recovered only Rs 35 lakh since the amnesty scheme was introduced in June this year. It has to recover a total of Rs eight crore from around 1,100 defaulters. In that, Rs four crore is fine. The PCNTDA had granted loans to built around nine housing colonies for low-income group.

“We have received letters and requests from a lot of flat owners to extend the time limit of the amnesty scheme. Since they are from low-income group, we have extended it to December 31 in their interest. We expect that a lot of people will benefit the 50 per cent fine waiver. But, if flat owners fail to pay up by December 31, they will have to pay 100 per cent fine. If not, the PCNTDA will be forced to evict them from the flats,” said Suhas Divse, chief executive officer of PCNDTA.

The PCNDTA had introduced the amnesty scheme for around 1,010 housing colony defaulters who had bought flats in colonies built by PCNTDA and repeatedly failed to pay installments to the body. This scheme was introduced for a period of six months, which ended on November 31.

The PCNTDA waived 50 per cent of the fine amount for defaulters who paid within these six months and expected that a majority of defaulters will clear dues. But the response was pale as in all only 218 defaulters paid up.
