SURAT, Feb 7: The Prevention of Crime Branch PCB, which launched a series of raids on the red light area of the city, arresting three pimps from the area, barely a week ago, today arrested one Aquil Bhadwaa, a notorious pimp operating in the Chakla Bazaar area of the city under provisions of the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities PASA Act and despatched him to the Bhavnagar jail.

The Chowk bazaar police on Sunday evening, simultaneously registered a case against Aquil Bhadwaa for illegally procuring girls and forcing them into prostitution in the red light area of the city. Aquil already has a number of police cases pending against him.

Meanwhile, PCB sources here said that raids on the red light area of the city would continue. Earlier last week, in a series of raids conducted in the Noor Jehan Building in Muglisara, where the red light area is located, three pimps, all Nepali women namely Ganga Shaila Sherpa, Shanu Kancha Tamang and Shashi Dilbahadur Tamang were arrested under the PASA Act. They have already been sent to different jails in the state.

The police stated that with religious places like mosques, temples, dehrasars and churches located around the area as well as a number of schools in the area, the red light area was proving to be a nuisance to the citizens of Surat. In addition, the police said that the pimps were illegally procuring women and initiating them into the flesh trade against their will.
