PUNE, May 27: The bodies of Ramesh Patil and his family members were cremated on Monday in the presence of Pune Mayor Vandana Chavan.

Ramesh Patil, his wife and their two children were murdered on May 16 at Princetown Town, Kalyaninagar, here. The police have arrested Bhagwat Kale, a construction worker of the building his wife Geeta and his cousin Sahebrao Kale in connection with the gruesome murder of the Patil family.

The bodies of the Patil family were lying unclaimed at the morgue of Sassoon Hospital as their relatives refused to claim their bodies. The cremation of the bodies took place today at Kailash Smashanbhumi in the presence of Pune Mayor Vandana Chavan and Congress corporator Subrao Kadam. It began at 1.30 pm and the body of Vijaya Patil, wife of Ramesh Patil was cremated first, followed by their son, Ramesh Patil and their daughter Puja.

Mayor Chavan, when contacted explained that she attended the cremation on humanitarian grounds.

Meanwhile, police sources informed that the clothes of the accused Bhagwat and Sahebrao Kale have been sent for chemical analysis to ascertain whether there are any blood stains on their clothes.
