
HISAR, Dec 1: In order to provide full-fledged knowledge about patenting and its laws, CCS Haryana Agricultural University CCSHAU here has set up Haryana8217;s first patent cell in the varsity.
According to vice chancellor J.B.Chowdhury, the cell will not only create awareness and understanding of patents but also provide guidance to scientists and technologists besides keeping a watch on developments in the area of Intellectual Property Rights IPR.
Elaborating, he said that the university was actively considering the proposal of governemnt of India8217;s Department of Science and Technology to set up patent facilitating centre here to cater to the needs of the Haryana state.
8220;A six-member patent committee has also been constituted under the chaimanship of B.L.Jalali, director, research in association of director, technology information, forecasting and assessment council TIFAC8221;, he said and added, 8220;the panel would identify areas in which the varsity can apply for patenting8221;.
The VC futher stated that with the globalisation of trade under World Trade Organisation WTO treaty, the patenting products have gained significance. Under the changed scenario, the scienstists and technologists were exposed to their intellectual process, Chowdhury added.
Giving more information, R.B.Srivastava, joint directoragriculture CCS HAU, said that the proposal finally bore fruits after R.Saha, director, TIFAC, visited the campus to chalk out final details.
However, Jalali told that his directorate had initiated to get elite plant genotypes developed or identified by the university registered at National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources 0NBPGR. He said four genotypes, namely jayanti and uttara of pea, pentafoliate mutant of mungbeans and genetic male sterlile line of desi cotton developed at CCSHAU had already been registered with the NBPGR, while over 20 such cases filed by the university were under consideration.
