Differences have cropped up within the Kashmiri Pandit leadership over the satellite township that is being built on the outskirts of Jammu for Kashmiri migrants.

While a section of the Pandit leadership feels that the township at Jagti proves that Government has made up its mind to permanently settle the displaced community in Jammu, the other section wants to stress that the Jagti project is an upgradation from the existing migrants camps and should not be linked to the return issue at all.

Opposing the proposed move of the state Government, Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch state president Ashokji Kanghan said the satellite township meant the Government had no plans to ensure the return of the displaced community in the long run.

8220;We want that instead of constructing the township here, the Government should construct the same in the Kashmir Valley, so that people wanting to return to the Valley, can do so as soon as possible8221;, he said.

Differing from the stand of the Panun Kashmir factions, Kashmiri Pandit Sabha president T N Khosa said the Government should construct the township on the outskirts of Srinagar so that the displaced community could return there.

8220;We are not against the construction of the two rooms sets here, but the state Government should ensure that these are temporary sets. We want the Government to make it clear that this project will not come in the way of the return of the displaced community to the Kashmir Valley,8221; he said.
