PANCHKULA, Aug 18: The district administration is making special arrangements to ensure free and fair elections. Deputy Commissioner Vivek Joshi has instructed senior district officials to ensure that the model code of conduct is not violated.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the Kalka Vidhan Sabha constituency has been divided into 19 segments to facilitate free and fair polls. He said that besides 13 duty magistrates, supervising officers would be appointed in each segment. There are 287 polling booths, of which 167 have been set up in rural areas and 120 in urban areas.

Deputy Commissioner Vivek Joshi said that rehearsals would be held for the polling staff on 27 and 31 this month. He added that 1-Kalka Assembly constituency area falling in 1-Ambala Reserve Parliamentary constituency falls in the district.

There are 1,98,519 electorates in 1-Kalka Assembly constituency is and of this there are 1,09,674 male voters and the female voters count to 88,845.

Sixteen villages of this polling segment have been identified as more sensitive, the Deputy Commssioner added.

Judicial remand for 8 accused in Pinjore case
The eight accused in the Pinjore rape case, who have been arrested by the Panchkula Police, were produced in the court today. The Chief Judicial Magistrate today sent them to Judicial remand till September 1, 1999. The police are yet to arrest the main accused.

It may be recalled that they have been charged with the rape of a minor girl.

Chautala going strong, claims INLD gen sec8217;y
Indian National Lok Dal general secretary Pardeep Chaudhary has strongly protested the claims made by some opposition parties that the Chautala government would not last long.

Chaudhary said the Chautala government is growing stronger with each passing day. He added that the INLD and BJP are fielding their candidates from all the 10 seats in the state. Also, he said, that as far as the expansion of the Cabinet is concerned, the decision has to be taken by the government.
