A 34-year-old man died of a gunshot wound near Kherki Daula toll plaza on Tuesday evening.

Police said the deceased, Manoj Ojha, a resident of Chhatarpur, had 16 criminal cases registered against him in Delhi, involving charges of murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, robbery, and theft.

He had been convicted in two of these cases and was released on bail in June 2025 after serving a prison term.

The incident came to light when police received information about a person having been shot near the toll plaza.

“A team from the Kherki Daula police station reached the spot and found the injured man in a Bolero vehicle. He was immediately shifted to Medanta Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. During examination of the vehicle at the scene, we have recovered two loaded pistols,” officers said.

Senior police officials said a preliminary inquiry showed Ojha was a history-sheeter with a long criminal record. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events, the precise location of the shooting and the motive behind the incident.

“Scene-of-crime, FSL and fingerprint teams have inspected the spot and the vehicle. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and the family has been informed,” a police spokesperson said.
