
CHENNAI, OCT 1: On a day when the tussle for a place in the knock-out quarter-finals intensified, Bombay and Karnataka in Pool F registered second-straight wins in the league phase trouncing Himachal Pradesh 9-1 and Bundelkhand 14-0 respectively in the Bank of Baroda 49th Senior National women8217;s hockey championship at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, here today.
However, both sides play each other tomorrow to decide the pool winners. Bombay need to win outright while Karnataka will progress with a draw.
For Bombay, centre-forward Pakpi Devi led the onslaught on the Himachal Pradesh defence. She slammed home five goals including a hat-trick.
She also converted two penalty corners. Himachal Pradesh who managed to score just one goal, found the net through forward Santosh Kashyap. Bombay were up by five goals at half-time.
In Pool G, last year8217;s runners-up Orissa walloped a lowly Andhra Pradesh 12-1 after leading by six at the interval.
Pepsu who beat Gujarat 4-0 are the other contenders and the clashbetween the two will decide qualifiers from the pool.
In Pool D Air-India who beat West Bengal yesterday, completed their outings with a 4-0 win over Kerala, who have lost both their matches. But with strong contenders Haryana who have two wins by huge margins and a draw against West Bengal, Air-India left for home.
