NOTTINGHAM, July 25: The England pace trio Darren Gough, Dominic Cork and Angus Fraser led an England fight back with three South African second innings wickets in the fourth Test at Trent Bridge today.

After Allan Donald had taken 5-109 to dismiss England for 336 and squeeze out a 38-run lead, South Africa, was 92 for three at stumps on the third day, to lead overall by 130 runs.

While Donald equalled a national record, wicket-keeper Mark Boucher broke a world record.

When Donald had ninth man Darren Gough caught by Boucher for two, it was the 14th time he had taken five wickets in a Test innings, equalling off-spinner Hugh Tayfield’s South African record.

For Boucher, the dismissal was his 50th, making him the fastest to that mark, in his 10th Test. He beat his immediate predecessor Dave Richardson and West Indian Courtney Browne, who both required 12 Tests to reach their half-century of dismissals.

South Africa, teetering on 21 for three, was let off the hook during a face-saving 71-rununbroken fourth wicket stand between Daryll Cullinan (41) and skipper Hansie Cronje (32).

Donald, the bowler of the series with 24 wickets, once again did a short work on the England batting, after the home side had resumed on 202 for four claiming nightwatchman Ian Salisbury and Graeme Hick in a 18-ball spell in the morning.

Only a determined four and a half hour innings by Mark Ramprakash, rescued the England innings from a meek capitulation against a rampant Donald.

Ramprakash, left unbeaten on 67 (205b, 274m, 7×4), added an invaluable 53 runs for the fifth wicket with Salisbury (23) after England had slid from 145 for none to 199 for four on the second evening.
