The Election Commission is likely to take a decision on Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy’s office-of-profit petition against 10 CPI(M) MPs in a few days.
Election Commission sources said Roy has ‘‘give some additional information’’ regarding the cases following an EC notice to this effect. The three-member Commission is expected to study the response and decide whether to proceed with the petition and call the other side for hearing or reject it altogether for want of specifics, the sources added.
The EC officials said the petitions against other MPs, the number of which has risen to 45, were ‘‘in different stages of consideration’’. With President returning the Bill, the EC has stepped up work on the petitions.
However, officials said they had ‘‘never suspended the process’’of considering the disqualification petitions referred to it by the President and Governors of various states.
