
Two cars collide when a boy mistakenly releases the ignition lock, minor arrested
The Rajkot city police on Tuesday arrested a minor boy for allegedly killing a man and injuring two other persons in a reckless driving case. The 16-year-old boy8217;s attempt to play the music player in his uncle8217;s Scorpio car turned into a freak tragic accident.
The boy accidentally unlocked the steering wheel of the MUV leading to its collision with another car parked nearby which in turn hit Feroz Savan 28 and two other bystanders on Monday afternoon. Feroz later succumbed to his injuries at the Rajkot Civil Hospital.
Bhaktinagar police produced the accused, a Class VIII student of V V Virani High School, in the juvenile court, today. A case of murder through reckless and negligent driving has been registered against the boy, a resident of Babariya Colony. The boy8217;s father Kumuddin is a retail scrap dealer.
8220;A case under Section 304a of the IPC and Section 3 Article 181, 184, 134 and 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act has been registered against the boy,8221; said the police.
Rajkot Police Commissioner Sudhir Sinha said there was some discrepancy about boy8217;s age. 8220;But from his school certificate we have found that he is 16 years old,8221; Sinha said.
According to the police, the accused, who wanted to play the music player, inserted the key into the steering wheel of the car and instead of turning it once, turned it thrice, releasing the ignition lock.
The accused also applied pressure on the accelerator leading to the collision of the MUV with another parked van. The victims who were standing nearby were hit by the van.
The police investigation revealed that the accused took the keys on his own and got into the MUV. Investigation also revealed that the boy had never learnt to drive a four-wheeler.
The Scorpio belonged to the boy8217;s maternal uncle, a resident of Mumbai, who had come to visit the family during vacation.
